Interview With Author - Tito Medina

Today, I bring you an author interview with Tito Medina. Tito started writing short stories at age 12. It has always been a passion of his. In 2019, he began writing again after a long hiatus. In December 2019, he published his first book, a collection of adult fiction stories. Lets find out more.

Tell me about yourself

My name is Tito Medina, I am a 47year old self-published writer. I am on active duty in the military and love to write for the sheer enjoyment of creating stories.

How long have you been writing?

My love of writing started as far back as a young kid in elementary school. I was an avid reader who read 2 levels beyond my grade until I was in the 7th grade. I wrote a short mystery story when I was 12. The Choose your own Adventure books showed me reading could be an adventure

What do you like to read?

I love to read mystery and crime, both fiction and non-fiction. One day I hope to be able to write good mystery stories like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie.

What do you like about writing your chosen genre?

Well so far, I have written erotic romance and I like it because it allows me to just write freely and explore things in that realm without hesitation. I, however, would like to expand into other genres as I just like coming out with creative stories no matter the genre in which they fall.

You have two erotic short story romance books published. Can you tell me about them?

The first is titled “Killer Lust” It is a collection of nine short stories. Each stand alone. There is a little something for everyone, I think. There are some surprises as the stories are designed to hook you and keep you guessing on the edge of your seat.

The second collection, “Twisted Romance”, is another collection filled with murder, revenge and betrayal. This collection has a little more of a romance aspect within it. But will still keep the reader hooked and wanting more.

Are you working on anything at the moment?

I am currently working on a stand-alone suspense novel which surrounds the mysterious disappearance of a local woman. A young woman begins her own investigation as she learns police believe her father is somehow connected.

What is your writing Kryptonite?

My Kryptonite would be the realm of reality. For me, sometimes its hard for me to escape and let fiction just be fiction. I sometimes get caught up in the real world and writing human characters. I am working through it and I do have some stories that have broken through, but not as many as I think I am capable of producing.

As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal?

My spirit animal is a panther. It is strong and protective and yet it is dark and mysterious. Intimidating and yet its thoughts are unknown. Similar to the abyss in my mind sometimes.

Do you believe in writer’s block?

I do. I believe it exists and can surface from many different places. Whether internal or external, it is real but can be overcome. I find that time and space are key to helping me overcome it. I have many ways to combat it, just depends on my headspace and whether its an internal or external source.

What advice would you give a new author?

To a new author I would say this – Believe in yourself and your words. It doesn’t matter what others think, it matters what you think. If you are proud of your result, then its art. It is not easy but if you have core values that you remain true to, then it will all be ok, and you will be successful. Remember why you started writing and hold on to it. I write for me and if others enjoy my words, then it is a bonus.

What do you like to do when you are not writing?

When I am not writing, I enjoy spending time with my puppies, watching sports and reading. Occasionally I will play a video game or two. I also like to observe the world around me. You never know where inspiration might strike.
